Keeping Katrina tidy

I found the House panel investigating the government’s Katrina preparations and response quite entertaining. Especially when Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla admonished Leah Hodges, a black female Katrina survivor, for calling the situation on the Causeway and I-10 the “Causeway Concentration Camp”. Rep. Miller tried to get all sassy with Ms. Hodges, inferring that she didn’t know what happened in the Holocaust, but she wasn’t having it. She cut him off and simply said:
“I’m going to call it what it is. That is the only thing I could compare what we went through...
The Superdome Wilderness of UNTRUTH
Posted by T-Steel in American Society, Hurricane Katrina on September 30, 2005 | 5 Comments
Dean Esmay goes off on the false reporting in the Superdome about the rapes and murders:
Dead babies stuffed in ice coolers. Women, children, and babies of all ages raped. Cannibalism. Shootings everywhere. Corpses numbered in the hundreds at the Superdome, and tens of thousands throughout the city.
Bulls**t. It was all f**king bulls**t. You know, I am usually one of the first to stand up and say I hate false accusations of racism, and how America is mostly over that crap from the past, but someone please tell me: why did we all believe this racist bulls**t about the darkies down in New Orleans?...
No more Hurricane Katrina blame talk…

That’s right boilyz and grillz, I’m done. I don’t want to talk about federal, state, and local government actions. I’m through with all the blame at this time. I had my rant, found facts, talked about this on other blogs, etc. Right now, it’s all about the solution talk. Yeah, the boring stuff like:
1. Relocating the victims into semi-permanent/permanent residences.
2. Getting them addresses so they can receive mail.
3. Getting them phone service.
4. Finding ways to employ the 1 million+ left jobless.
5. Getting their mental and physical health back to normal.

I didn’t know 9/11 destroyed New York City…
Posted by T-Steel in Hurricane Katrina, Just Plain Silly on September 2, 2005 | 5 Comments
Guess what everyone? New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin is no Rudy Giuliani according to Thomas Galvin:
The overwhelmed Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin was not up to the job. He sent out an “S.O.S.” and had a profanity laced meltdown in a radio interview instead of rolling up his sleeves and saving his city.
As soon as the World Trade Center was on fire, Rudy Giuliani told his police commissioner Bernard Kerik, “Thank God we have George Bush in the White House.”
Rudy Giuliani was the central figure of 9/11 for New Yorkers, and for the rest of the nation. As mayor he knew New York...
Enough of this crap!

My last two entries was an attempt to siphon some of my anger about the handling of the Gulf Coast emergency. But it’s to no avail. I must vent.
I am tired of this shit! Where are the damn troops? This should have been a military operation from the jump. Instead we have the ol’ “it’s a local issue and the Feds shouldn’t be involved” nonsense floating around. And to top it off, according to sick news commentators like Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, the looting in New Orleans is the root cause for this disaster. What? Like the New Orleans Darkies...
Racist attitudes in disasters… DAMN!

Just typical. Click the following links, look at the pictures and read the words:
White people “find”
Black people “loot”
That’s pure bullshit. But I can’t say that I’m surprised. And to show even more loveliness, there have been reports that National Guard troops and local police officers are assisting the “looting”. Betcha two biscuits and momma’s gravy that those were black troops and black police officers. And you can’t take the n***** outta the… Don’t shirk away from me now. I got ya hook, line, and sinker....
Is it looting or survival?

Watching the looters in down New Orleans on various news shows, I was struck by what most of them were stealing: diapers, food, and clothing. And then we hear how people can’t get out due to breached levees. Add to that the shortages of food, fresh water (no running water), no electricity, and a worsening situation by the minute, are those people that are “looting” necessarily wrong? Or are they just trying to survive? We’ve watched countless disaster movies where people have raided stores after massive destruction and being cut off. And with relief efforts strained...
Electrician Task Force
Posted by T-Steel in Hurricane Katrina on August 30, 2005 | 2 Comments
My brother and I are in the beginning stages of coordinating an Electrician Task Force to help our fellow citizens down Louisiana and Mississippi. My brother is a master electrician and I’m a lowly apprentice (under him but learning). We’re going to start contacting local Michigan contractors at first to get the word out. Hopefully we can get some interest and momentum so we can help. I’ll be adding a donation button once we get the interest and some organization. I’ll keep you posted on any new developments.
Thanks Juliette for the advice on coordinating our efforts...
Fiction to reality? Wow… (UPDATED)

I remember watching a FX original movie called Oil Storm back in June. The movie showed what could happen if a category 5 hurricane slammed into Louisiana, destroying New Orleans, and totally disrupting a vital refined oil pipeline at Port Fourchon, LA. It showed our country reeling from the loss of life and energy reserves due to the hurricane’s damage. Guess what? Gas prices soar, heating oil prices soar, businesses fail, trucking industry grinds to a halt, etc.
And now Hurricane Katrina is in the exact same place and at the same strength as Oil Storm showed. Folks, your normally glib,...
