Bomani Jones has written an article for ESPN Page 2 called ‘Akeelah’ Wins You Over. The article is a review of the new movie Akeelah and The Bee and his thoughts. I urge you to read his article. He touched on so many things about what average, everyday black folks feel about education and success in general. Can’t lie. I almost felt like crying since I identify. I’ll talk more about my experiences later.

Hey T Steel:
I have been trying to recall my Typekey password so I can comment here. Are the trolls that malicious? I will check out this article. The state of Black folks and education is a serious issue and it really relates to the education of all Americans. WE had better do something about it! Although I am not sure if vouchers are the answer. It seems like giving teachers more control over their curriculum, but having uniform standards that must be covered makes the most sense. Have a great day:)
Unfortunately the trolls have been getting bad (residuals from my friend’s ex-blog Solotude). But back to the issue at hand:
I agree it is a serious issue. But there’s this notion that we are overwhelmingly anti-education since we scared of “acting white”. That isn’t true at all. And the movie Akeelah and The Bee does a marvelous job of showing that.
