I was thinking about the whole concept of world peace today when I surfed over to Dean’s World and read an entry by Scott Kirwin entitled What I Want For Christmas. His opening words got me thinking:
World Peace? Nope. There won’t be peace until the last jihadi has gone to “paradise”. While the Armed Forces are doing their best to make each and every Jihadi’s “dream” come true, it will take some time before peace is possible - even through wishes.
It’s quite amazing how Christianity and Islam (now Judaism) still are at odds. Over a thousand years of war, scheming, pain, suffering, and threats. I agree with Mr. Kirwin that world peace is FAR in the future. But the last jihadi has gone to “paradise” angle hardly will fuel world peace. Only when humans take a good long look at themselves and realize the essential sameness then world peace will be possible. Till then, I will settle for a futuristic and very cool looking hover train network across the USA. That’s something more within our grasp than world peace.
[zing! to Scott Kirwin]
Hover trains…
Ooohhh!
Hadn’t thought of that one.
Flying Cars. Its a shame we have com closer to space elevators and Ion Propulsion than we have to flying cars.
Your right BH! We should have flying (hovering) cars by now. Space elevators and ion propulsion whipping flying cars is downright sickening. Long live The Jetsons!
I happened across your blog today and spend an interesting 15 minutes reading…I like the way you come at issues at right angles to the “standard” left/right dichotomy, at least as I understand your writing. We need more thinking out of that two dimensional trap, as far as I am concerned. And I wholeheartedly agree that recognition of essential sameness (along with respect for cultural differences), across national, ethnic, and religious borders of all kinds, is a precondition to world peace that will unfortunately be long in coming. As someone trained in biology, frankly I lump humans in with vertebrates in general - you want real diversity, check out the prokaryotes and Archaea! There are completely different metabolisms out there! Variety in social organization among members of the same species sort of pales in comparison! OK, I am being a bit facetious. However, it is my hope that perhaps the kinds of communication the Internet permits will help bring us closer to this goal, recognition of all that we humans share. Take care!
