The creepiness just flows…

I checked out the infamous Little Green Footballs for the first time. Uh… I won’t be going back. Also I visited Oliver Willis for the first time. Uh… I won’t be going back. Both sites make my skin crawl. I don’t know who’s more creepy, Charles Johnson and “LGF lizards” or Oliver Willis and Company. Don’t get a Mystic Negro wrong, I do like the occassional spirited political debate but LGF and Oliver Willis bring out some serious jellyroll brains as commenters and rabid left/right nuttiness. Especially LGF.
Maybe there’s something...
Let us all eat cake!

LaShawn Barber shares her love of the wonderful dessert known as cake while giving Warren Brown’s CakeLove some love:
I love cake. In fact, I love cake so much, I look at people who hate cake as if they’re Martians.

Feelin’ the Good Times

Thanks Avery for making a brutha get all nostalgic. There are three television series that I can honestly say I love to death: Good Times, The Cosby Show, and Battlestar Galactica (the new one). Good Times holds a particular special place in my heart for two reasons: I fell in love for the first time with Thelma Evans (actress/dancer Bern Nadette Stanis) and I respected James Evans (actor John Amos) like my own father. What a show! Now I must look upon the beloved cast once again:
I’m getting all misty and stuff. Good Times indeed.

War is what it is… War!

“I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.”
— General Dwight D. Eisenhower
I’ve talked to several Vietnam veterans and a World War II veteran about that quote. All of them have said that the words of General Eisenhower ring true even though they wanted to and needed to win each and every battle. Complex isn’t the word for war. War is the word for war.
Conversion is different but the same…

Scott Kirwin posts on Dean’s World about being a recovering Democrat that is now a Republican:
…I broke with the Democratic Party after Sept. 11, 2001, when the President prepared for war in Afghanistan and the anti-war Left summoned Jimmy Carter, Michael Moore and Ted Kennedy from the 9th Circle of Hell. The Democratic lurch to the Left after 9-11 was so hard, so anti-populist, that it got me to thinking deeply about what that party means and why it exists.
I grew up as a Democrat. My parents spent the Depression trying to survive, and as late as 1954 they were still making decisions...

The Checkers’ been checked!

Michael Bowen is tired of hearing about the “checkered past” of the Republican Party:
Beginning today, I don’t want to hear another word about the ‘checkered past’ of the Republican Party. I’m so sick to death of the excuse-making and whinging and fear and distrust. I’m fed up with the conspiracy theories and demonization. I’ve had it up to here with the empty threats and loudmouth posturing.
Any African American who lives in fear of the Republican Party needs to seriously check themselves and determine if they are living under the proper rule of...

Dean Esmay gives his 3 cents about the John Bolton appointment as UN ambassador:
I for one would be pleased to see Bolton go to the UN breathing fire, a sword in one hand and a gun in the other. Diplomacy is not always about being nice. Sometimes it is, sometimes it’s the exact opposite. Ultimately, it’s about getting what you want. In the case of the UN, we need reform of that badly corrupt den of oppressors, and it’s time that we had someone who told the bald truth to them. I don’t care how unpopular Bolton is with the thugs and tyrants who make up the majority of that...

The Couch Sessions has a podcast interview (in MP3 format) of New York singer-songwriter Kierstin Gray. She says that she’s “the best music you’ve never heard.” I don’t agree. She’s part of a large group of artists making “the best music you’ve never heard”.
Kierstin Grey is supremely talented. I listened to some song samples on her web site. Talked about being moved. This young woman can flat out write and sing so emotionally. Good writer + good musician + good singer = LOVELINESS! Check out her web site and the podcast interview....
