64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane…

Being a musician and music lover, I find myself listening to and deeply enjoying the music of some children’s shows. I particularly enjoy the music of 64 Zoo Lane. From Wikipedia:

64 Zoo Lane is a children’s television programme created by An Vrombaut. It features a girl called Lucy who lives next to a Zoo. Every night she is told a story by the animals present there. Characters include Georgina the Giraffe, Nelson the Elephant, Tickles and Giggles the monkeys and Molly the hippopotamus. The programme emphasises friendship and responsibility.

Originally shown in England as part of the BBC’s CBeebies lineup for children, it is now also shown in the United States on Noggin. In the U.S. version, Lucy’s voice is given an American makeover, but the voices of the animals remain with British accents.

The theme song is full of great string and synthesizer work. The vocals (sung with a noticeable British accent) are pleasant, slightly dreamy, and work well with the lyrics. Truthfully, the song damn near hypnotizes me and I can’t get it out of my head at times. But having the 64 Zoo Lane song in your head is postively heavenly instead of this garbage. My wife and children (ages 7, 6, and 2) love 64 Zoo Lane. It’s a family affair I tell ya. I find it amusing how thought and creativity goes into children’s music yet most of our popular music lack thought, creativity, and risk. But I’m good. I don’t listen to popular music anyways (love ya Ivana Santilli and Zero 7).

Other children’s shows with good music is Blue’s Clues, Dragon Tales, Oswald, Reading Rainbow (a classic theme), and Dora the Explorer. For those of you with no children, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a round or two of children’s programming. I won’t tell anyone. *wink*

What are you insane??? Do you realize what torture you have relegated me to for the next 24 hours. As the music of that song now spins in my head ???

    I hope you are satisfied.

Very satisfied my friend. Let the song lift you up and bounce on clouds of hypnotic patterns. Soon we will all be part of the 64 Zoo Lane Collective. The Borg will have nothing on us.
