Feelin’ the Good Times

Thanks Avery for making a brutha get all nostalgic. There are three television series that I can honestly say I love to death: Good Times, The Cosby Show, and Battlestar Galactica (the new one). Good Times holds a particular special place in my heart for two reasons: I fell in love for the first time with Thelma Evans (actress/dancer Bern Nadette Stanis) and I respected James Evans (actor John Amos) like my own father. What a show! Now I must look upon the beloved cast once again:

I’m getting all misty and stuff. Good Times indeed.

All good shows. I’ve only watched the new Battlestar Galactica twice (we’ve only had cable for a little over a week) but I love sci-fi and I think I’m really going to like this one once I figure out what’s going on.

Funny thing about Good Times - John Amos always reminded me of my dad, even though I’m white. It was something about the way he looked when he was pissed off, I think. I never mentioned that to my dad. He was… well… not very open-minded.

John Amos just had the presence that made you think of FATHER. Damn shame he quit the show because fans and friends thought the show was insulting to African-American (I prefer Negro) life. Those “fans and friends” were just plain dumb.

All man! I love the old series and always will. The new one is is pretty good though but I guess I like the “original” better just because it was first.

As for Good Times and the Cosby show, love ‘em to death, I can sit and watch both all day long. A great way to spend a lazy Saturday!

To add to the list, Whats Happening, The Jeffersons, and Sanford & Son! Great shows when I was a kid, especially the Jeffersons.
