Racist attitudes in disasters… DAMN!

Just typical. Click the following links, look at the pictures and read the words:
White people “find”
Black people “loot”
That’s pure bullshit. But I can’t say that I’m surprised. And to show even more loveliness, there have been reports that National Guard troops and local police officers are assisting the “looting”. Betcha two biscuits and momma’s gravy that those were black troops and black police officers. And you can’t take the n***** outta the… Don’t shirk away from me now. I got ya hook, line, and sinker....
Is it looting or survival?

Watching the looters in down New Orleans on various news shows, I was struck by what most of them were stealing: diapers, food, and clothing. And then we hear how people can’t get out due to breached levees. Add to that the shortages of food, fresh water (no running water), no electricity, and a worsening situation by the minute, are those people that are “looting” necessarily wrong? Or are they just trying to survive? We’ve watched countless disaster movies where people have raided stores after massive destruction and being cut off. And with relief efforts strained...
Electrician Task Force
Posted by T-Steel in Hurricane Katrina on August 30, 2005 | 2 Comments
My brother and I are in the beginning stages of coordinating an Electrician Task Force to help our fellow citizens down Louisiana and Mississippi. My brother is a master electrician and I’m a lowly apprentice (under him but learning). We’re going to start contacting local Michigan contractors at first to get the word out. Hopefully we can get some interest and momentum so we can help. I’ll be adding a donation button once we get the interest and some organization. I’ll keep you posted on any new developments.
Thanks Juliette for the advice on coordinating our efforts...
Fiction to reality? Wow… (UPDATED)

I remember watching a FX original movie called Oil Storm back in June. The movie showed what could happen if a category 5 hurricane slammed into Louisiana, destroying New Orleans, and totally disrupting a vital refined oil pipeline at Port Fourchon, LA. It showed our country reeling from the loss of life and energy reserves due to the hurricane’s damage. Guess what? Gas prices soar, heating oil prices soar, businesses fail, trucking industry grinds to a halt, etc.
And now Hurricane Katrina is in the exact same place and at the same strength as Oil Storm showed. Folks, your normally glib,...

** For those of you not familiar with The Da Vinci Code, please click here for an excellent summation of it via Wikipedia. **
La Shawn Barber’s words concerning The Da Vinci Code movie (due for release May 2006) and book sums up why religious disputes are so hard to reconcile:
The Da Vinci Code hype has down died in the past couple of years, but it’s sure to heat up again. The story is not true, but that’s hardly the point. In a world hostile to the faith, we must be prepared to defend the faith when confronted by questions and absurd arguments made on the nonsense within the pages of...
The power of pissed off parents

While my two daughters were getting on the school bus today, a driver behind the bus (the only driver) starting honking his horn rudely and gestering wildly. The driver (a middle aged looking white man) then rolls down his window and starts cursing. Saying such lovely things as:
Get those little bastards on the bus!
Fuck these little rugrats!
Now, I’m an extremely cool person but this guy has went too far. Heeding the words of my road dawg Solomon when approaching a car on foot, I walk quickly towards the car, passing the passenger side, slowly walk around the back of the car then I rush...
CBCunplugged: Strikers’ Underground
Posted by T-Steel in Around The World on August 24, 2005 | 1 Comment
Mel at c h a n d r a s u t r a (love the name and concept behind it) has a post about CBCunplugged. As you may or may not know the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation) has locked out 5000 workers over contract disputes. So those workers formed a blog called CBCunplugged (complete with podcasts) to give their side of the story and even broadcast underground versions of their CBC shows.
I love it.
Regardless if you agree or disagree with the strike, the fact that the strikers have used alternative media so fast and so fully is downright cool. Go to CBCunplugged and check it out yourself. Did...

Being a musician and music lover, I find myself listening to and deeply enjoying the music of some children’s shows. I particularly enjoy the music of 64 Zoo Lane. From Wikipedia:
64 Zoo Lane is a children’s television programme created by An Vrombaut. It features a girl called Lucy who lives next to a Zoo. Every night she is told a story by the animals present there. Characters include Georgina the Giraffe, Nelson the Elephant, Tickles and Giggles the monkeys and Molly the hippopotamus. The programme emphasises friendship and responsibility.

It’s Aeon for Fluxing

My wife wears the below t-shirt with pride and much love:
It has no political meaning. No hidden message. It just says the magical words Aeon Flux. People ask her all the time about her t-shirt and she replies (with a big dollop of sweetness):
It’s just something my husband used to talk about all the time so I decided to wear it.
That’s love for ya, fellas. She doesn’t know nor care about the symbol on the shirt. She just knows I talked about it alot. JOY! And big fat kiss back to ya babe!
What is Aeon Flux you ask? Google the name and you’ll see. And don’t...
