Last November, my wife and I were honored to be in the presence of Ivana Santilli. Club Meow in Windsor, Ontario (Canada) was the place to be that night. The wife was dressed to impress and I have to admit, I became a tad possessive seeing her but hey, she’s my wife and I’m with her. And I was lookin’ good myself. As Solomon is so fond of saying: HOLLA!
Nevertheless we arrived, drank a little, and then it was showtime. This beautiful woman comes out with her band (even my wife gave her props). To start the show, she sits behind her keyboard and puts down some serious jazz chords. Now I’m really intrigued. Then she grabs her trumpet, stands up blows some pure notes out of her trumpet. It was obvious the woman has chops. After her intro, we were treated to live R&B, pop, house, and even a little classical. All from one band. And to top it off, she can sing. As a musician myself, I was giddy like a kid in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
Her website has a bio, song samples, and full videos. Since she’s from Canada, she has some Canadian pride thrown in there. Based of the quality of her musicianship and voice, she can throw the maple leaf in my face anyday.
Special section for Clubbers
Ivana Santilli has video on her website for the song “If Ever I Fall”. Watch it and tell me have you ever been in a club when that kind of mood hits. I have. It’s weird yet strangely good.
I have both of her albums, still play them religiously, and they are always, ALWAYS, in rotation, man. I swear - it’s like “how come I didn’t pick up Corduroy Boogie LAST YEAR?” It certainly would have been one of my top 10.
Thanks for the info! Checked out the site, one word TIGHT! I mean just all around good music! I am a tough critic and don’t really care for a lot of the new stuff out but I am definately going to look for her albums out here in Cali( I’m not a big music buyer so you know this girl is good).
DUDE! you tell the truth about THAT mood in the clubs. all chill, lazy, and groove. NICE! One word about Ivana Santilli: PROPS!
As a resident of the T-Dot I have to say that Ivana Santilli definitely puts in a lot of work into her live show.
She gigged that first album to death. Last time I saw her she opened for Omar here in Toronto and overall that was easily the best live show I saw last year.
